President's Comments:
Ah yes, its Spring and the car events are in full bloom!! And rightfully so cause hey, you can do yard work just so long then you get the urge to something with the Vette, right? If you look hard enough, there is car stuff going on every weekend, and we better take advantage of the nice weather cause summer is just around the corner. In March, on the 13th, we did an event at Xtreme Motorsports in Blountstown. I threw this event together with the help of Chris Harwood of Xtreme as a kind of ‘spring thaw’ get together, and tried to have activities that all would enjoy. We had a Dyno Challenge and a Corvette Display for the guys, and bingo for the girls, and we toped it off with a terrific seafood buffet. This was a big success and I hope we can do it again next year. Then on the 27th, we sent 4 cars to the State Wide Corvette Event at the Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham put on by the Mid-Alabama Club. This was primarily a social event, but included a couple of laps around the track. OK in April we have, oh lets see – The Caravan!!! This will be our 30th Beach Caravan event!! The plans are set, the contracts are signed, the T-shirts are ordered, the food is laid on, we are ready. For our club members, as usual this will be a combination of a working event and a good time. We will need help on Thursday and again on Saturday, and I know everyone will pitch in and do whatever is necessary for the event to be a success. John Hickman has bore the brunt of the work load for putting this event together (as usual), but Charley Robertson has also been busy coordinating for the VIP’s and picking up items for the auction. This is our time to shine, and I look at it as a win-win situation – we have a good time, our participants have a good time, and we make money for charity!! Also in April is the Emerald Coast Corvette club’s annual event, the Corvette Beach Odyssey. This will be on the 23rd and 24th , and I hope we can help this great club with some good participation from us. Bruce |

Tech Tips: This months tech tip comes from former club member Rich Stuhmer. This was a personal experience of his, and included is ‘fix’ from GM. Notice the fix is simply to add a particular GM fuel system cleaner. I know some folks have also had good results with Chevron Techron Total Fuel System cleaner. Not listed in the Service Bulletin below is that adding the fuel system cleaner won’t always fix the problem, and in those cases the fuel sensors located in the 2 gas tanks has to be replaced. Here’s Rich’s email: The problem I had with my fuel system is certainly not unique to my car, as evidenced by the numerous entries on the Corvette Forum. C5 and C6 cars seem to be particularly vulnerable to sulfur contamination of the fuel sender card. The Symptoms: ‘Low fuel’ message on the DIC when it’s known that the tank is NOT low. ‘Service Fuel System’ message on the DIC. Fuel gauge indicates empty no matter how much fuel is in the tank. The Solution: Reset the computer ECM and then use a quality fuel system cleaner as per the *GM Service Bulletin below. *Gilland Chevrolet would not let me have a copy of the service bulletin, but I found it on the Corvette Forum web site. #PIC4765A: Erratic Fuel Gauge Operation DTCs P2066 And/Or P2636 - keywords cluster empty gage inaccurate inoperative instrument IPC needle panel dender tank - (Feb 21, 2008) If the jet transfer pump is operating properly the fuel sender card may be contaminated. This could cause an incorrect voltage signal to be sent to the ECM. Customers should be advised to correct a contamination issue by adding one bottle of GM Fuel System Treatment PLUS (part number 88861011) to the fuel system on their next fuel fill. Note; the fuel level must be below ¼ tank when the fuel treatment is added. The treatment rate is 1 oz. per gallon of fuel (Using one 20 oz bottle to the fuel system is acceptable). To clean a severely contaminated fuel level sensor, it is permissible to treat the fuel system on two consecutive tanks. Note: Back to back treatment is only permitted once in the life of the vehicle. After the initial treatment, customers should be advised to add one bottle of GM Fuel System Treatment PLUS to the fuel tank at every oil change, however, not more frequently than once every 3000 miles. |
