President's Comments:

Well here we go again. A new year, a new President, and several new Board members, all ready to make the Circle City Corvette club the best we can be. As you new President I want to make sure our number 1 priority continues to simply be – Having Fun! Hey, that’s why we come together as a group and do things isn’t it? The number 2 priority – to give something back to the community. We can do this by continuing to support local events such as the Azalea/Dogwood parade, the Annual Peanut Festival Parade, and by providing funds to worthy charities.

We will have our challenges too. With the country in the grips of a terrible economic recession, the success of our annual Beach Caravan is in question. Will we still get the VIP’s from GM? Will we still get the participation levels we have in the past with so many folks out of work, and many with huge financial losses? A lot depends on what happens in the first part of 2009 with the new administration in Washington. So, be prepared to work hard for a successful Caravan.

I will continue to be your Local Events Coordinator as I feel regular local events are at the heart of a successful car club. I have Dan Greene lined up for the January Cruise, and Jean and I will be doing the one in February. But I need volunteers for the March and April Cruise, which I’ll be asking for at the January meeting. I invite input for other types of local events such as cook-outs, going to recreational events, or whatever.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the January meeting – same Vette time, same Vette place!!

Bruce

Tech Tips:

Jan 09 Tech Tip

New Years Resolutions

We all usually make New Year’s resolutions for ourselves, but what about our Corvettes?  Try something like these this year.

Myself – Get some of this extra weight off and try to keep it off.

My Corvette – Get it cleaned out and try to keep it clean.

Myself – Exercise more and try to stay fit.

My Corvette – Exercise it more and try to NOT get a ticket.

Myself – Try to enjoy life more this year.

My Corvette – Try to attend more Club activities this year

Myself – Try to appreciate others more.

My Corvette – Try to appreciate other Corvettes, even though yours is “nicer”

Myself – Be friendlier to others.

My Corvette – SAVE THE WAVE!

Have a Great New Year – 2009

Terry

Car of the Month:

The Walkers unrestored, immaculate C3

Our 1970 Corvette Convertible is a dream realized that only took 25 years to accomplish. I'd always loved the C 3 generation of Corvettes but more specifically the chromed bumper version built from 1968-1972. The 1970 model appealed to me the most due to the addition of front and rear fender flares and its somewhat limited production run due to a GM strike in 1969.

I couldn't wait until the following day to call and see if the car was still available. I spoke with the Peter the owner, he assured me the car was as represented and that I would be happy with the purchase. I bought the car sight unseen. We received the car a few days later. Our car arrived in the early evening with a light rain falling but I couldn't wait to drive it so Cindy, Courtney and I all piled in a went down the street a block or two. We've enjoyed every ride since.

I had been searching magazines, newspapers and every Corvette related web-site without success for several months. While looking at the web-site of a very small collector car dealer located in Pineville, Louisiana, I'm not sure where it's located, a picture and description of the car emerged. I knew that I had found my car almost instantly.

The car is an original un-restored 1970 Convertible in Monza Red and with a light saddle interior. It has approximately 95,000 miles. We have owned the car for 7 years. The car has provided us with a new Corvette Family and never failed to generate smiles and has even had to pose at a gas station or two for a quick photo session with some adoring fans. Thanks for all the fun.

The Walkers.
